Charmed's sixth season saw Paige struggling to control her special powers while trying to work out what she's destined to do in the real world. Paige also had to face some major changes at home, as new single-mother Piper struggled to raise baby Wyatt and give birth to a second child, ***** (SPOILER) But another baby on set for season seven is bad news for Rose.
"I can't say I'm a fan of working with babies," she admits. "It's the crying, and the two of them on the set to play Piper's baby, it's even worse. And it makes filming slower because the script keeps demanding they have certain expressions and you can't make a baby do that."
Paige's use of her magic powers to fight the forces of darkness doesn't leave much time for romance, but she has still managed to check out virtually every man she's encountered in her search for Mr Right. McGowan hopes her character can find true love in season seven because she's not looking forward to kissing a further collection of actors.
"Paige is a loser when it comes to guys." she says. "I've been lucky because two of my friends in real life have played her boyfriends, so it's not been like kissing strangers. But I'm running out of friends to pull favors."
On real life, McGowan is currently involved in a long-distance romance with magazine editor Dave Zinczenko, and regularly jets between her home in Los Angeles and his New York to see him. Before Zinczenko her last big romance was with the controversial 'shock rocker' Marilyn Manson.
McGowan's was equally unconventional, as she grew up in a sect and traveled around Europe with six brothers and sisters. She launched her acting career after she ran away to Los Angeles and went on to establish herself as the darling of independent movies, before scoring a blockbuster hit with Scream.
But since starring in Charmed, Rose McGowan has been forced to get used to a whole new level of fame. The show's fans range from teenagers to pensioners and she proudly recalls haw a 65-year-old taxi driver once admitted that he and his wife were addicted to the supernatural series. She also points out that she's received the ultimate accolade - an action figure modeled on her character.
"It was really funny," she says. "They sent me one for approval and the chest was twice the size of mine, so I made them cut that down. And the mini skirt was much too short, so I had them pull that down."
"I never had those kind of toys when I was little. My sister did and I used to snap their doll's heads off."
