Hey guys, whenever I go to cons I steward and it absolutely rocks! So if you've brought a ticket please read through this and volunteer!!
ARE YOU GOING TO STARFURY: THE WITCHING HOUR?
Whether you're going on your own or with friends, you've got a perfect
opportunity to get to know other fans by stewarding.
A convention takes a great deal of hard work and manpower to organise
both before the event and during, and it's the 'during' part that
needs volunteers to help with. In order for the event to run smoothly
it needs YOU, the ticket holder, to volunteer to steward. Whether
you'll be joining us for the entire weekend, or even just one day,
we'd love to have you with us.
Stewards are essential. Whether you have stewarded before or have
never been to an event in your life, doesn't matter. The only
qualification is that you are willing to contribute a couple of hours
a day to helping out. It's not difficult, and is, in fact, the
highlight of most people's weekends. It's a lot of fun, it brings you
closer to the other attendees, and over the years some brilliant
friendships have been formed through stewarding.
You're not being asked you to help out for nothing. In addition to all
the friends you'll make, there are some perks:
Priority seating in the main hall -
There will be seating reserved for off duty stewards and disabled
attendees in the hall, which offer the best view that no other
attendee can get. These will probably be the first two or three rows,
and are ONLY available to off duty stewards, disabled attendees, staff
and guests.
An end of convention meeting -
This will be held on the Sunday evening, probably after the closing
ceremony. Where possible the guests are asked to attend, but this is
not guaranteed.
A big thank you at the end of the weekend -
Usually, a unique item is given to you as a 'thank you' gift for
helping out. This item will probably be signed by the guests. It's not
guaranteed, but I've never known one to not be provided. These rare
items are designed specifically for the event and are only available
to stewards at this event – no one else in the world will have one!
And most importantly, you will receive the thanks of all those at the
event for helping out.
If you are on duty during autograph or photo sessions you will be
given the chance to jump the queue and get straight into the room –
something most attendees only wish they could do!
Where possible duties are scheduled around things you don't want to
miss. There are also stewarding roles that can cater for those with
disabilities.
Once again, stewards are essential to the smooth running of the event.
It's a great way to make friends. So please don't be shy about
volunteering, or suggesting to your friends to volunteer.
If you haven't already booked your ticket to the event, you can do so
