So, I participated in something called White Out Day today. And, being the curious girl I am, I decided to inquire here and see if there was anyone on MNI that knew or participated or observed a White Out Day before.
If you don't know what the White Out Day that took place to my school was about. I'm sure it's similar if not exactly the same way others have done it.
During White Out Day today, the members of a group organization called SADD (which I am a member of, and the acronym stands for Students Against Destructive Decision), were pulled out of class every 34 minutes and we got their faces painted white, changed into black clothes, and wore signs around our necks saying "Don't Talk to me i'm just a 'MEMORY'. I died at..." and then the time that we were whited out at. Then we also put 'tombstones' on our lockers, saying "R.I.P. I died because of a drunk driver". Then we couldn't talk for the rest of the day.
My tombstone, unfortunately, got lost. First, people out it onto another locker, and then I moved it back, but when I returned to my locker once more it was gone and I wasn't able to find it. I was whited out at 9:08 in the morning, and I couldn't talk until 3:00pm when school ended.
13 others participated in white out day as well. There were 12 others whited out, and the thirteenth person was the Grim Reaper and got to white us all out.
The point of this? The point of White Out Day is to show that even though the number of drunk-driving related deaths have gone down, it still has a long way to go, even if it will never fully terminate. As more and more people got whited out, you really see the impact of it. Even though none of the kids in my middle school are unable to talk, we all still have an impact on those around us that DO. That was the point of White Out Day.
So, what I'd like to know, is if anyone here on MNI has ever participated in White Out Day before, or heard of it. If not, maybe you could talk to someone at your school about it and do it, because it really helps make people aware of the effects of drunk driving.
