Does anyone consider the Charmed books as part of the series or not. I like to read them but I've always wondered about how they tie in to the series.

I attended a Charmed panel at Dragon Con (SFF convention in Atlanta every year) a few years ago and Diane Gallagher who wrote a number of the books was there. She said that most of them were taking place in an alternate season 5.

I've read some of the books, and found them enjoyable. But they're basically "other" adventures that were created for the girls. I wouldn't consider them apart of the series, more so a "spin-off" (I guess you could say).
I'm not sure a spin-off is the best word for them, but what I'm try to say is that they are about the same characters, but other writers got to put their own spins on the stories.

I think the books are really good to read!!! The new adventures in the books are nice But I have found it better if the books were more like the episodes...

Maybe if Charmed was still around, Brad would've gotten the idea to borrow a storyline from one of the books and make it into a future episode. Then again he could've easily done that before, so maybe that's overreaching…
